Apple Launches HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K With Siri AI: Price, Features and Availability
Apple has announced the next-generation HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K, bringing updated audio features, smarter home controls and a more conversational Siri experience to its home entertainment lineup. The two devices are designed to work together, with the new Apple TV and compatible HomePod speakers enabling Apple's four-speaker home theatre setup.
HomePod mini 2: New Colours and Smarter Features
The new HomePod mini 2 keeps Apple's compact smart-speaker design while introducing enhanced audio processing and support for the company's next-generation Siri AI features. It is available in five colours: pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
Apple says the speaker uses its S10 chip and computational audio processing to optimise sound in real time. Users can play music through a single speaker, create a stereo pair or connect multiple speakers for multiroom audio.
How Siri AI Will Change HomePod mini 2
Siri AI is a major part of Apple's announcement. Apple describes a more conversational assistant with broader knowledge, personal-context features and improved music discovery. Depending on the supported setup, it is designed to help users with requests connected to their apps, reminders, messages and other personal information.
Apple TV 4K: A New Streaming and Entertainment Hub
The new Apple TV 4K is designed to make discovering shows and movies easier while improving performance and smart-home control. Its hardware includes Apple's A19 chip, three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri requests and a dedicated AV1 decoder for supported streaming content.
A19 chip and AV1 decoding
Apple says the A19 chip offers up to 50 per cent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance compared with the previous generation. A dedicated AV1 decoder is designed to support efficient playback of compatible streaming video.
Hands-free Siri controls
Three built-in far-field microphones allow users to speak to Siri without picking up the remote. Apple also says the redesigned experience can present search results and entertainment suggestions in a full-screen interface.
A remote that's easier to find
The Siri Remote adds Find My support with Precision Finding and an option to play a sound, helping users locate a misplaced remote.
HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K: Four-Speaker Surround Sound
One of the headline features is the ability to create a four-speaker surround-sound arrangement by pairing the new Apple TV 4K with compatible HomePod speakers. Apple says the system can recognise speaker positions and automatically calibrate audio timing and levels for the room.
Apple TV 4K Also Works as a Smart-Home Hub
Apple TV 4K continues to act as a home hub for compatible smart-home accessories. Apple says users can control accessories and scenes, receive supported doorbell notifications on their TV and benefit from enhanced camera activity descriptions and summarised notifications in the Home app.
